At the 3D Creative Arts Awards at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Wednesday, “Life of Pi” was named top live-action 3D feature, earned honors for live-action stereography and for sequence or moment of the year (the scene depicting fish flying over Pi’s boat) PLUS International 3D Society’s Harold Lloyd Filmmaker Award for its director, Ang Lee.
A couple of more award updates from our friends on Variety below:
“Brave” snagged two prizes, for top animated feature and for animation stereography. “The Avengers” won for best use of 2D-to-3D conversion, while “Katy Perry: Part of Me” triumphed in motion picture live event and “Storm Surfers” (from XLrator Media) was named top 3D documentary.
Pixar’s “La Luna” won in the category of narrative short. Universal Studios Hollywood’s “Transformers: The Ride — 3D” took the prize for themed attraction.
On the TV side, 3net’s “Sky Soldier: The Vietnam War in 3D” won in broadcast entertainment, while ESPN’s presentation of the 2012 BCS football championship was named the best in live sports broadcast. In addition, “Britney Spears: Femme Fatale Tour” took the kudo for live event, and Stereotec won in commercial for Volkswagen Germany’s “Flower Power.”
DreamWorks Animation won the Sir Charles Wheatstone Award for education and distinguished achievement, and Panasonic won the Century Award for its support of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Two other 3D technology kudos were presented to RealD and Innoventive Software.
