The Smurfs is bound to drop out of the race. As reported by Coming Soon, Sony Pictures has decided to move their 3D adaptation of The Smurfs from a December 17th, 2010 release to a summer 2011 date.
Sony is considering the July 29th slot in which Papa Smurf and the gang will have no competition. That, of course, is likely to change, but regardless, it was a smart move on Sony’s part to keep the film out of the December 17th free-for-all.
Director Raja Gosnell will be taking the little blue guys into a live action setting but no plot details have been revealed.
