CES 2012: 12 Reasons Why 3D isn’t Dead!

LONG LIVE 3D!

It is a strange feeling to miss something that is one of the most physically exhausting, all consuming, mind boggling marathons to ever be run. Of course, I am referring to the annual King of True Ironman challenges, the Consumer Electronics Show.  I have been attending this show for the better part of, ah…well, let’s just say longer than most of the writers of other blogs out there. I have seen many “trends” and “fads” throughout  the years. I have also witnessed many real changes and improvements in the industry.  So I can speak with some authority when I talk about the future of 3D.

It is here to stay, just as sure as color or digital sound. It is the next step in the evolution of entertainment.

There have been many harbingers of the death of 3D. Indeed anytime a 3D movie or product comes out that doesn’t do as well as expected (expected by whom and based on what is never made clear in these pronouncements) it is the end of 3D. This Chicken Little, “the sky is falling”, attitude has never been more apparent  than in the last couple of weeks. CES always promises the newest, the best in consumer electronics every year. Every year there is something new. 3D was not the highlight of the show, that is true, but no technology is the every the highlight every year. that is the nature of the show. It thrives on new advancements, new technology. But to point at it and say, “3D is dead”, because it isn’t the main event is just plain silly and bad reporting. With this in mind I have put together a list of the top 3D products at CES this year. If this list doesn’t convince you that 3D is alive and well, then I say, “3D is dead, long live 3D!”
