The CineMartin Next Device is a triple threat. It’s a recorder a monitor and a computer all in one. This device is truly unique. It stands apart from other recorders and monitors because of the high-end ultra small PC that’s built in.

The unit not only allows you to record in uncompressed AVI as 4K 444 RGB in 10-bit at up to 30 frames per second, with a promised upgrade later to do 60 FPS using the dual 6G HD-SDI port.

When the other more unusual feature is that you can actually record all the way down to SD resolution not many devices do that anymore.

Along with recording uncompressed AVI, it will take your files and, using CINECs software, transcode them to ProRes or HVEC H.265 on the fly. The onboard 1 TB hard drive (optional with either a 500GB or 1TB) gives you plenty a room to store a days worth of shooting. The Cinemartin NEXT 4K actually supports transcoding to a number of codecs: Uncompressed, DPX, ProRes, H.265, DNxHD, Mjpeg and can handle 8 or 10-bit as well as 3D frame packing. It seems it can only record to Uncompressed, MJPEG, DPX.

And with this device once the day is done you can open up an editing program on the PC, connect to a larger external monitor via the display port or the HDMI and edit what you’ve worked on that day. You have a choice of using the built-in touchscreen display or by plugging into any of the 4 USB ports, you can use an external mouse and keyboard. A Bluetooth device which will control a combination of both makes it very easy. Working on the road, as I do, this device is much easier than having to carry around a bulky laptop. Dealing with 4K on a tiny laptop just will not do.

The 6.7 inch 500 nit screen is extremely bright even in daylight. With my clunky hands, I did find the touchscreen somewhat uncooperative. But using a touchscreen stylus solve that issue quickly.

The computer running an intel 64 Bit Core processor’s, with a Partial Buffer – RAM of 16 GB or 24 GB and a integrated SSD of 500 GB or 1000 GB. It will run Adobe Premiere CC 2015 as well as After Effects CC 2015 easily. You can use other apps; for streaming, sharing, upload and send, backup, etc .. and it is really a fast machine, fully portable consuming only 29W (15W TDP), that can battery 12V std. be powered and run for 3 – 5 hours or more with sleep mode activated. I used a Blueshape BubblePak Battery and got excellent life, enough to go half of the day.

The implications for the use of this machine are really limitless. As an on camera add on recorder, Video Village, DIT. With this machine on location, using one of the dual ethernet connection, enables you to upload to the Internet your upload dailies. I like using Frame IO for review purposes anywhere in the world. You could edit your dailies or even an entire project with it. The uses are a combination of everything that you can do with a standard external recorder combined with everything that you can do with a full-sized desktop edit PC.
