Convergent Design Drops Titan HD Extract

Convergent Design has found a way to utilize the Odyssey recorder with a very inventive twist. With this upgrade you can shoot 4k and extract 3 shots in HD, a wide and two close ups. This is fantastic because it allows you to use you 4K camera as 3 HD cameras all with one shot. Set up a wide master and use the Odyssey to zoom in to create two different close ups.

The video above shows how this works and below is the release info from Convergent Design.

Titan HD Extract is an incredible new upgrade option for the Odyssey & Apollo monitor/recorders.

Titan uses one 4K camera to create three HD video signals. One frame is a SuperSample of the full image area and two are windows selected from within the original input. These windows can be panned smoothly through the 4K field and the three angles can be Live-Switched. All four HD signals can be recorded simultaneously in Apple ProRes with matching timecode and filenames.

Titan HD Extract gives you a supersampled 4K to HD image plus two 720p/1080p extracted images from a single 4K input source. Simply tap to select the extracted frames.

Simply input one 4K video source via SDI or HDMI and Odyssey or Apollo will create three HD video files from it. No need for additional hardware!

Not only will it create and record three HD video files, you can live switch between the full frame and two extraction frames on touchscreen interface.

Not only will it create and record three HD video files, you can live switch between the full frame and two extraction frames on touchscreen interface.

Simple tap and drag motions allow you to move the extraction frames real-time on the input, capturing events as they happen.

Using only one camera you can now have an edit-ready multi-cam production with ProRes ISO recordings of each frame on removable SSD media.

Use live-switching to create an Edit Decision List that quickly creates a cut in post production, whether you choose to record the live-switch on board or not.

Titan accepts 4K video signals over HDMI and SDI (original Odyssey7Q limited to 3G-SDI). Titan also accepts 4K RAW data from the Sony FS5, FS7 & FS700 cameras. Live-Switching is available as cuts and dissolves, and an Edit Decision List is generated as an .EDL file for conforming an edit in post.

Titan is an option for the Odyssey7Q+, Odyssey7Q and Apollo monitor/recorders. Other options (Odyssey RAW Bundle or Apollo) are not required for Titan.

Titan list price is $1295, but Convergent Design will offer Titan for a limited time at an introductory price of just $995. Titan is expected to be available around the beginning of October.
