4K Video on Demand soon on DirecTV!
“We’re working to secure some [4K] content,” White said. “We expect certainly in 2015 or early 2016, to be able to stream live content.”
DirecTV’s 4K plans are relatively aggressive among U.S. pay-TV providers as consumer adoption of Ultra HD remains in the early phases.
The news comes from DirecTV’s CEO Mike White, who addressed the company’s 4K plans in their second quarter earnings call. In order to provide live Ultra HD video, DirecTV will be launching two new satellites to increase their broadcast capacity. The satellites are expected to be in place within the next 18 months. With that said, DirecTV is confident that it can provide on-demand 4K content through its current equipment.
