George Lucas praises 3D movies today

With George Lucas’ re-release of Star Wars in 3D, the man himself makes a bold statement about 3D movie today.

“We’re going through a new technological revolution that is set to change everything,” the famed Star Wars mastermind said in a letter to Shortlist magazine. “Watching a movie in 3D is simply a better way to watch a movie. It’s like black and white versus colour. Watching a movie in black and white is fine, however, colour makes it look more real.

Whilst Lucas’ remarks might be seen as a shameless plug for the latest offering of the hugely successful Star Wars franchise, the first to be released with 3D imaging, his comments echo a current trend in modern cinema, with a large number of modern movies making the trip to the big screen in 3D forms.

“With 3D the depth brings reality to the digital characters and you notice things in the background that actually impact on the story. It becomes a truly immersive and overpowering experience.”
