Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Sold Out in Japan and USA

An overly cautious Nintendo underproduces one of the most highly anticipated games of the year leaving gamers across the world feeling the rage that only being denied the new Legend of Zelda can create. I am not even kidding.

In 2009 Nintendo released Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. Expecting a momentous surge of buyers they produced a mass amount of games for retailers. What they didn’t figure was that Spirit Tracks was not a good enough game to fly off the shelves. This resulted in the underproduction of the much anticipated new game for the Nintendo 3DS Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time which is now virtually impossible to find in stock anywhere. Both Japan and the United States have been sold out since the opening weekend and Nintendo is taking its time to meet that demand.

This is likely to be a new Nintendo trend as the Nintendo 3DS is massively popular. Ocarina of Time is the 3DS’s first real “must have” companion game. It makes business sense. What games are being produced are being sold for $49.99 because Nintendo knows that we will pay that ridiculous amount to get our hands on Ocarina of Time.

Now it is likely that all 3DS games will be underproduced until the parent company can determine each games worth in the eyes of the consumer. A game people want will double in price but not in production (tehrefore maintaining the high cost) and games that flop will die away.

I will say this. Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass was awesome. The original Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has taken its place in the Gaming Hall of Fame. I will therefore shell out $50 in a second if I were to find a store with Ocarina of Time 3D in stock. Well played, Nintendo. Well played.
