Sharps New 3D Smartphone, without Glasses

Sharp’s 003SH, the company’s new 3D smartphone,  goes on sale in Japan next month. The company announced it’s plans for 3D technology in phones earlier this year, and now it is announcing plans for it’s 3D smart-phones to launch in the USA, China and India in 2011.Although no explicit plans for Europe are in place yet, it is only a matter of time before Sharp announce plans to bring this exciting 3D technology to the UK, because in the highly competitive smart-phone market, it is features such as 3D which will set certain products apart from the pack.

A statement from Sharp read:

“We want to expand our market share with phones that have unique abilities and original services.” With the Nintendo 3DS set to bring 3D in to the palms of gamers, Sharp is set to bring the technology to the attention of a wider audience, with smart-phones becoming increasingly popular in consumer markets all over the world.

To recap, the handset makes it possible to view 3D images without glasses through a vertically zoned parallax barrier (2D images can be converted to 3D with the push of a button). The phone has a 3.8-inch touchscreen with 800×480 resolution, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, a 9.6MP CCD camera with 720p video recording, and it runs on Android 2.1. Sharp also threw in Japan-specific features, such as a OneSeg digital TV tuner or an e-wallet function.

Buyers can also expect some pre-installed 3D content, such as games. Sharp also said they will upgrade the Lynx to Android 2.2 in spring next year.
