Envivio to Deliver the Future of TV in Live 4K to South American Cable, Satellite and IPTV Viewers

-Saving the Best for the Last Three Rounds-

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 26, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Showing the promise of 4K TV to early adopters of next generation TV technology, Envivio (Nasdaq:ENVI) announced today that Globosat, a leading content provider to cable, satellite and IPTV operators in South America, has added Envivio as one of Globosat’s partners to broadcast live the quarter, semi-final and final 2014 World Cup games in Ultra HD/4K resolution.

“4K TV delivers four times the resolution of traditional HD video. Global sporting events like the 2014 World Cup finals are the ideal stage to showcase the promise of 4K TV to consumers,” said Globosat’s CTO Roberto Primo. “We are excited to partner with Envivio to power the transmission of this mega event.”

Envivio will broadcast the games in 60 frames per second (4Kp60) for stunning video with rich color clarity for live-action events like the World Cup. The soccer coup follows Envivio’s successful live 4K broadcast of the 2014 French Open tennis tournament in May.

“First tennis, then soccer, whatever the sport, Envivio’s leading technology and experience in powering world-watching live action events makes us the number one choice for content owners and service providers alike,” said Envivio’s CTO Jean- Pierre Henot. “We’re happy to support Globosat with this special Ultra HD broadcast of the final World Cup games,” he added.

Technical Background

Envivio Muse Ultra HD is a high-quality live or file-based video encoding/transcoding solution that is designed to offer a new TV experience for viewers desiring to watch ultra-HD quality programming on Ultra HD compatible devices. Muse Ultra HD can encode up to 4K video resolution — four times HD resolution — in up to 60 frames per second, offers a larger color range with the new BT 2020 standard and can be encoded in eight or 10 bits. Ultra HD resolution offers significant value to operators looking to deliver premium video services, such as high-profile sports events, in the best possible quality. Envivio Muse software is designed to support both live and on-demand 4K compression in HEVC format. The HEVC standard reduces bandwidth consumption compared to MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) by 30 to 50 percent, improving the video experience and reducing cost of operations for both Ultra HD big-screen services and existing mobile or over-the-top TV services.
