Blu-ray Disc Association Plans to Incorporate 3D Video into Blu-ray

The ever-changing Blu-ray Disc Association (BPA) has announced plans to incorporate 3D video into blu-ray format, 3D support to movie playback.

BDA says that it is working with movie studios, IT and consumer electronics companies to develop a standard for 3D Blu-ray films.

BDA is looking forward finalizing a specification that will require the delivery of 1080p resolution to each eye and backwards compatibility with the older players, too.

Bob Chapek, President of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment says, ““Consumer adoption of Blu-ray continues to grow at a very steady pace. The 3D theatrical market has been very successful this year. We are just now seeing all of the true capabilities of 3D and with Blu-ray Disc’s superior technical characteristics, as well as the broad industry support of the format; it makes it the ideal packaged media platform for 3D home entertainment.”
