Monty Python Gang Making a 3D Animation on the (Fake) Life of Graham Chapman

Our favorite Monty Python members including John Cleese, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam are lending their voices to a new 3D animation based on the absurdist memoir of Graham Chapman, a deceased Monty Python member. The title of the memoir alone, “A Liar’s Autobiography (Volume VI)”, brings back memories of watching “Holy Grail” or “Meaning of Life”.

The New York Times reports that Chapman will be along for the ride despite the slight obstacle of being dead. This will be accomplished by using recordings of Chapman reading his book shortly before he died.

The members of Monty Python were humorous as ever about the upcoming project. As a fan I was glad to see that this movie would be in the same vain as the classics, by which I mean, they wont let their dear friend’s death get in the way of having a good time. “I had no idea until recently that Graham Chapman is in fact dead—I thought he was just being lazy,” said Jones. “However, I am now delighted to find myself working with him again on this exciting project.”

In keeping with the trademark Python humor, the movie will be produced and directed by ‘Monty Python’s Flying Circus’ creators Bill Jones, Ben Timlett and Jeff Simpson. “We’ve been working closely with the Chapman estate and the Pythons to make sure we get this exactly right,” said co-director Simpson. “Graham would be delighted that his work is being re-imagined in glorious 3D. He always loved wearing silly glasses.”

Animation on 85 minutes long project will be handled by 15 different animation companies, with each working on different chapters from the book. Segments will vary in length from three to twelve minutes each.

Eric Idle is currently not involved with the project, but co-director Timlett said the filmmakers are “working on” him.
