Nintendo is getting involved in some “active” marketing at the Detroit stop, this Friday, in the popular Warped Tour. Attendees will get to try out the Nintendo 3DS and their exclusive content at Sampling Stations during the festival.
Anyone in the Detroit area who will be attending the Warped Tour in Comerica Park on Friday should pay attention to their surroundings because Nintendo will have a booth supplying music fans with a hand-on demo opportunity to try out the Nintendo 3DS.
Demos will be available for single-samplers or groups of people. They will be able to create Mii Characters on the built-in Mii Maker App, they can take 3D pictures on the device of their Warped Tour experience or they can play any number of games offered, such as Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, RIDGE RACER 3D and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D.
Attendees who own their own Nintendo 3DS’s are encouraged to bring theirs to the concert so that they can wirelessly exchange Mii characters will other tour-goers using the built-in StreetPass feature, to create a social networking atmosphere. An element that is at the heart of the Warp Tour’s appeal.
This is some very creative, and likely effecting, marketing on behalf of Nintendo. If this move is successful we could see many other gaming companies doing the same. Maybe someday the Warped Tour, or other tours like it, will be known for their great music, atmosphere and game shopping. I give them a golf clap as for the first time I think that maybe I should get tickets to the Warped Tour next year.
