Star Trek Goes to Warp At CBS in 2017

Alex Kurtzman, Producer,  is developing A new star trek TV series set to debut on CBS, the original station that carried Star Trek. The new series will debut January 2017. The premiere episode in all following shows will be aired on CBS’s All Access digital subscription service exclusively. This will be the first original series launched primarily on an SVOD service.

Kurtzman It’s taking on the mantle of executive produce their innate deal with CBS Television Studios. Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout will co-produce with CBS on the venture. Launching this series this way is designed to capitalize on star trek’s rapid OTT fanbase. CBS hopes this will accelerate growth of the fledgling SVOD service.

There have been no details as to the story or cast of the new show. But Kurtzman Has helmed the movie, “Star Trek” (2009) and “Star Trek, Into Darkness” (2013) so there are great hopes for another success.

“There is no better time to give ‘Star Trek’ fans a new series than on the heels of the original show’s 50th anniversary celebration,” said David Stapf, president of CBS Television Studios. “Everyone here has great respect for this storied franchise, and we’re excited to launch its next television chapter in the creative mind and skilled hands of Alex Kurtzman, someone who knows this world and its audience intimately.”
