A prisoner is paroled from jail after experimental brain surgery removes his criminal instincts and his memory. Not long after, he is accosted by his old gang members.
Produced in 1953 after the unexpected success of Bwana Devil the previous year, Columbia Pictures jumped on the 3D bandwagon.
This 70 minute feature actually was the first major studio 3D film although Warner Brothers touted, “House of Wax” as the first. “Man in the Dark” beat the Vincent Price classic to the screen by two days.
Directed by Lew Landers and starring Edmond O’Brien the feature was completed in only 11 days. While panned by critics, the feature used 3D in creative ways to immerse the audience in the hero’s disorientation as he struggles to remember his criminal past.
Screen Archives Entertainment has announced that only 3000 copies will be available. You can pre-order only, at this time. The expected release is set for January 22, 2014.
This is a part of 3D’s history and collectors should not waste time in placing their orders.
