Sony just announced that 4K compliant compact Handycam FDR-AX100, unveiled at CES 2014 in Las Vegas, will be released in Japan on March 14. It’s a quarter of the size of their currently-sold 4K Handycam FDR-AX1, and the price is about ¥200,000 cheaper as well.
FDR-AX100 features Sony’s 14.2 effective megapixel backside illuminated 1.0-type EXMOR CMOS sensor and the image processor BIONX X, which enables you to shoot 4K movies in 3,840×2,160 pixels. It also has a 29mm ZEISS Vario-Sonnar wide-angle lens with 12X optical zoom.
For full HD TV, you can keep the image in 4K quality and down-convert to full HD resolution.
