New Plug-in delivers industry’s easiest method to convert live stereo 3D film content for screening on autostereoscopic 3D displays

Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI), a leader in the development of mobile and fixed broadband communication networks, multimedia systems, image signal and 3D, today announced the launch of the new Plug-in Suite for Adobe After Effects (AFX), the easiest way to convert stereoscopic 3D live film content for screening on autostereoscopic 3D displays.
The new AFX Plug-in uses an algorithm developed by Fraunhofer HHI to enable easy and automatic conversion of stereoscopic content, either fully or semi-automatically, into content suitable for screening on autostereoscopic displays. Autostereoscopicscreenings, such as glasses-free 3D, require significantly more views than just the two views now used for stereoscopic presentation. With the AFX Plug-in, the missing views are computed and generated using sophisticated depth-based rendering technology.
“At Fraunhofer, we’re in tune to the growing needs of the 3D applications market,” said Christian Riechert, research fellow at Fraunhofer HHI. “The AFX Plug-in Suite and the Adobe After Effects open the door for users who haven’t previously been able to explore the possibilities offered by 3D solutions. The new plug-in offers an attractively priced and comparatively easy way of making their own autostereoscopic content.”
