It’s true, movies that are shot on 3D cameras are usually—plot notwithstanding—much more pleasing to watch than movies that were simply converted to 3D after-the-fact. You might be surprised, given how prevalent the technology is, just how many movies are not actually “real” 3D after all. – Gizmodo

Thoughts?
The industry is stuck thinking about 3D as a visual effect. The depiction of space is a perception component of vision which connects directly to the emotional processing part of our brain and unleashes an exponential increase in the available information that the brain interprets and presents to our consciousness. A chisel and hammer does not a sculpture make. What we’ve seen so far is crude 3D – but we won’t realize that until better quality comes around that gives us a basis for comparison. The delicious aroma of baking bread is beyond the ability of candle scent creators because it is extremely complex. There are nice smelling candles – but none match the experience of an awesome bakery. 3D movies that we have today stink, but aren’t quite as smelly as in years past. Some are tolerable but don’t breath in too deeply as there are better fragrances to come in the future. There is a place for “fake” 3D just like there is a place for instant coffee. I wouldn’t call either very savory. We can do better.
I was surprised at some of the films – blockbusters even – that are on the fake 3D list. World War Z caught my eye. Is this decision merely an economic one?
Why not go all the way on a big budget movie? Will “Real 3D” become part of a film’s marketing?
