The Thirteenth Annual Storage Visions® Conference, to be held at the Riviera Hotel Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada,January 5 & 6, 2014, announces that Kanaan Jemili, Senior Vice President of Product Managment at Rovi, will be a keynote speaker at this year’s event. The conference theme is “Fast is Beautiful, but Size Matters”. The Visionary Award submission deadline is November 14, 2013. Conference and discounted hotel registration is now open.
Jemili will present on the topic, “HEVC/H.265: The Next Quantum Leap in Video Compression and Its Impact on Digital Storage.” In his presentation, Dr. Kanaan Jemili will provide an overview of High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC/H.265) technology, the new standard offering almost double the compression efficiency of H.264. He will discuss how HEVC will reduce storage and bandwidth costs as well as support higher resolutions such as 4K. Dr. Jemili will provide examples of the ways in which HEVC will impact digital storage and the broader entertainment ecosystem including video delivery and reception infrastructures. This keynote will also provide an overview of the ways companies can implement HEVC for content distribution and how the new compression standard will change storage across the consumer electronics value chain from semiconductors to devices. Dr. Jemili will detail how HEVC will drive 4K content both professionally and for the home market, and the critical data!
elements in bandwidth-constrained environments that contribute to advancing to the next level in video realism.

Conference organizer Tom Coughlin observed, “Getting UHDTV to the home is a challenge, since the raw content is at least 4X larger than today’s HD content. HEVC compression will be a crucial element in enabling the next level of video experiences in the home.” He continued, “We are looking forward to having Rovi, a pioneer in HEVC content distribution, help us understand how HEVC will make UHDTV a reality and what the ultimate implications will be on bandwidth and storage capacity to support more immersive video content.”
