Today Courier Mail is reporting that Village Roadshow Pictures and Flynn Picture Company in association with Vinson Films are in pre-production on the New Line Cinema action-adventure disaster feature film “San Andreas: 3D”. Auditions for lead and supporting roles will be taking place in Los Angeles, CA. Shooting will take place in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Australia at the Village Roadshow Studios in Gold Coast, Queensland. Additional filming may take place in Brisbane and Ipswich. Filming is set to get underway in April, 2014. Over 2,000 extras will be cast throughout production. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on June 5, 2015 and will be released in 2D and 3D. This project has been in development since 2011.
“San Andreas: 3D”, which has a $100 million budget, has been granted a portion of a $20 million fund that was set up to attract film production Down Under. Angelina Jolie has been shooting the feature film “Unbroken” in Australia, which also has benefited from the film incentive fund. “San Andreas: 3D” will also qualify for the Queensland Production Incentive Scheme, local payroll tax rebates and federal rebates. The film will bring in over $30 million into the Queensland economy.
The show tells the story of Ray, an ace Los Angeles Fire and Rescue hero helicopter pilot who, in the aftermath of a disastrous 10.0 earthquake, embarks on a risky and perilous journey across California with his estranged wife Victoria to find his missing daughter Blake in San Francisco.
Canadian filmmaker Brad Peyton will direct “San Andreas: 3D” from an original screenplay written by Carey Hayes and his twin brother Chad Hayes. The film was originally pitched to the studio by Jeremy Passmore and Andre Fabrizio based on an idea by Beau Flynn. The early screenplay was written by by Allan Loeb and Primetime Emmy Award winner Carlton Cuse. Carey and Chad Hayes were finally brought on board to rewrite and complete the final drafts. Starring in “San Andreas: 3D” is Dwayne Johnson playing the lead role. Johnson had been filming the role of Luke Hobbs in “Fast & Furious 7” in Atlanta until the unexpected death of actor Paul Walker.
