Have you heard the 4K bomb on the 13th? 13th of November that is!
US satellite giant DirecTV has kicked off its 4K UltraHD content roll-out, with the availability of 19 4K films and teaming up with Samsung as its exclusive CE 4K UHD launch partner.
Customers who have DirecTV’s Genie HD DVR will be able to watch 4K programming on supporting 2014 Samsung UltraHD TVs. All of those broadcasts will be provided in 4K resolution. 4K is twice the definition of the now-standard 1080p video resolution.
“For more than 20 years, DirecTV has been changing the way people watch TV, as the first to move the industry from analogue to digital to HD, and now the ultimate TV experience with 4KTV,” said Romulo Pontual, executive vice president and CTO at DirecTV www.directv.com. “The picture quality and depth of detail that 4K provides is nothing short of remarkable and we will continue to expand our 4K line-up as consumer demand grows and evolves.”
The full list of titles for DirecTV’s fledgling lineup include special-effects dazzlers like the aforementioned Transformers film, along with older re-mastered movies including Forrest Gump, Amistad, McLintock!, and The Terminal.
