‘Superhot’ Dev Responds To Questions About VR Support For Upcoming Sequel

Yesterday, Superhot Team announced a direct sequel to its time-bending 2016 hit which is scheduled to arrive later this month on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. According to the team, players will embark on a brand new adventure within the Superhot universe four times larger than that of the original.

Available July 14th, Superhot: Mind Control Delete expands on the existing reality-warping formula with new skills, special techniques, hacks, and enemies to experiment with. Players will also have the opportunity to customize their experience with different builds and play styles, as well as control a variety of different characters.

The team states that development on Mind Control Delete began in 2017 and was originally scheduled to release by the end of that year as DLC for the original game. Somewhere in the development process, however, the project expanded into a full-fledged standalone sequel.

Unfortunately, it appears as though VR players will not be joining in on the slow-motion action, at least yet. Despite offering one of the most popular VR experiences currently available on headsets, Mind Control Delete will not feature VR support upon its release later this month, according to the developer via Twitter.

On the bright side, those who own a copy of the 2016 original will receive a copy of Mind Control Delete 100% free-of-charge. This applies to those who purchased Superhot through the Epic Games Store, GoG, Steam, or PlayStation 4.

Mind Control Delete will automatically appear in PC and PS4 game libraries within days of launch; Xbox One players will receive a message with a special code. Those who scored a free copy through the Epic Games Store or Xbox Games with Gold WILL NOT qualify for a free upgrade. Those interested still have time to pick up the original and grab a free copy so move fast!

While it’s unfortunate VR players will have to wait, I can’t imagine a world where Mind Control Delete doesn’t eventually release on headsets.

Despite releasing way back in 2016, Superhot VR remains one of the most satisfying immersive experiences available on Oculus and SteamVR headsets, offering a one-of-a-kind Matrix-like experience that actually improves upon its original PC predecessor. Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait too long for this highly-anticipated sequel.

Superhot VR is available on Oculus RiftOculus QuestSteamVR, and Viveport.
