There’s no doubt about it – the biggest problem with 3D TV right now is the price, but just a few months after its first 3D set, Samsung is already reaching the price point sweet spot at under $1,000. Details have begun to come out about Samsung’s PN50C490 plasma TV. The TV is a whopping 50 inches for only $989, at least according to one online retailer that Engadget tracked down. What’s the catch? Well, yeah, it is a plasma, which are generally cheaper than LED or LCD sets and not as popular with most videophiles. Additionally, it only has a 720p resolution. Up to now, because 3D TVs are the cream of the crop of the TV market, all 3D sets have had nothing but the highest, 1080p HD resolution. This new 50-inch TV also does not come with 3D glasses, but neither do most of Samsung’s current 3D models.
At under $1000, though, pricing is already becoming mainstream. It is quite impressive considering that most 3D sets from Samsung, and other manufacturers, are well over $2000.
