You don’t need to stick it in your ear with AfterShokz.
For those of us who need to stay aware of our surrounding instead of being isolated while listening to our favorite tunes, AfterShokz has the perfect solution. AfterShokz uses military grade bone conduction technology with a very comfortable wrap around headband.
For those of you who don’t know what bone conduction is here is what AfterShokz has to say about it on their webpage:
“Most of what we hear is due to sound waves traveling through the air to the eardrum, which then converts the sound waves to vibrations and transmits them to the inner ear. Sound waves can also get to the inner ear through direct vibration of the bones in the head which carry the vibrations directly to the inner ear, bypassing the eardrums. This is how a person hears his or her own voice, and also how whales hear. This pathway of sound is known as bone conduction.”
Interestingly enough, Beethoven who is almost complete deaf used a similar technique where he could hear music through his jawbone by biting a rod attached to his piano. Fortunately, AfterShokz doesn’t need you to bite anything to make it work!
3DGuy tested out this marvelous headset and gives it a big thumbs up. We used it in the field to monitor audio coming into our 3D camera. We used it hooked up to our iPad and iPhone simply to enjoy our tunes and we found that the quality met or exceeded most other in-ear or over-ear headsets on the market. All of this while allowing us to be able to hear other things going on.
