LG combines parallax barrier technology and eye-tracking technology to bring a smaller, glasses-free 3DTV into your home.
General consensus tells us that 3D has yet to give a good experience on a screen smaller than 40-inches or so. For many people this is a non-issue, however, to people like me who live in the heart of New York City and don’t have enough space in my cramped $3000-a-month studio to lie down straight, let alone indulge in a sweet home Cinema. So, if you are a 3D fanatic and are cursed with limited TV space LG have manufactured 20-inch 3D monitors to cater to your unique needs.
The LG DX2000 is a glasses-free LED back-lit 3D monitor. It uses parallax barrier technology with the added component of eye-tracking technology to deliver the image without the added bother of having to remain stationary to see the one ‘sweet spot’ on the screen. As far as I know this is the first time eye-tracking will be used on a TV. Eye-tracking is how the 3D lap tops have been functioning so it makes sense that this technology would make the jump from your lap top to your home TV. The DX2000 TV will also offer 2D-to-3D conversion incase you feel your current 2D content isn’t real enough for you anymore.
The prototype will be tested in Korea later this month and then will be mass-released latter this year.
