Now I’ll dig in a little deeper. Even though the specs say 60Hz refresh, with a little bit of wizardry, it is more like viewing 90Hz.
The tracking is spot on and doesn’t lag. PiMax using a dual gyroscope means no extra tracking device or a base station is need to give you 3 degrees of freedom in your movement. This does limit some VR games, but for the majority, there is no negative effect.\
The package is attractive and secure, and there is little danger in the transit to your door. Inside the PiMax is nestled in a nice molded foam cradle. In about 5 minutes you will have everything assembled.

The PiMax is constructed from ABS plastic which makes it light when sitting on your head. The 53mm lenses are glass, not plastic. The IPD is done electronically which eliminates the need for extra knobs or dials on the headset resulting in a very clean appearance. There are only three buttons, power, and volume up and down.
I would like to see better focus control, and I found that I needed my glasses for best clarity, although there was plenty of room to wear them comfortably. PIMAX includes Blue laser eye protection, as well as auto light adjustment and auto-demisting systems which reduce the potential health impact of VR headsets.
The straps are well made and wide enough to lend to the overall comfort of the headset. The earphones plug into the headset and are a cushy, padded and are easily adjusted by sliding them along the strap.
There are a few weak spots in the PiMax, and a big one is the software. Unfortunately, between the broken English and lack of solid instruction, you have to plod your way along till you get it. The Quick Start printed instructions will leave you flipping through the various languages to find the rest of it, but it is woefully little. Once you download PiPlay, I had no trouble installing the software, and my HP Omen laptop recognized it right away.
I already had Steam and Steam VR already installed from my Oculus Rift, so I did not have to worry with that.

The other weak point is that there are no controllers with the PiMax. You can shoehorn some into working like the Razor Hydra or the PS Move or even the Leap Motion, but the software is all third party and can be pretty crazy to install and get working.
My primary use is not for gaming but for checking my 360 videos.
Looking at a recent 360 aerial video of Bangkok, the edges are crisp with no artifacts, the color bright and accurate. The motion is smooth and free from studdering that I sometimes see in my Oculus.
With the compatibility with Oculus, you can download via Steam a huge variety of content that is growing daily.
