French artist Julien Maire created a movie replacing film with semi-transparent 3D printed mini-scenes. This may not be the future of 3D cinema…. but is quite intriguing nevertheless!
Julien Maier is a long term resident at the Fablab.IMAL in Belgium.
Since July 2014, Julien Maire had the opportunity to take part in a residency program at iMAL and its FabLab, where they have several 3D printers. he modeled 85 different mini 3D sets featuring a man digging a hole. He then used a 3D printer to print them out. These tiny little figures were then attached to a film-like endless reel, and light was passed through them, just like it would be when showing an old-time movie. The results? A movie like nothing you have seen before.
As you can see in the picture here above, the semi-transparent objects block out just enough light to make quite the visual presentation.
