DCS Event: Don’t Forget the Accessories
Featuring the EOS C500 at the Canon Hollywood Professional Center,Saturday, September 28th, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, with a EOS C500 demonstration from 9 am – noon.
In this upcoming event to be held on Saturday afternoon, September 28th, at the Canon Hollywood Professional Technology and Support Center in Hollywood, we will see the latest in rigs and accessories demoed on Canon’s Cinema EOS C500 4K Digital Cinema Camera. There will be an emphasis on solutions being offered to unify the EOS C500 with a variety of 4K recording options. Presenters from the following manufacturers (in alphabetical order), will include ARRI, Chrosziel, OConnor, Redrock Micro, and Zacuto. This session will also include a special overview presentation on the Canon EOS C500 given by Canon’s Tim Smith.
Prior to our DCS event, on Saturday morning, Canon Live Learning welcomes DCS members to also join Canon expert and Director of Photography, Suny Behar, for a demonstration of the EOS C500 and its workflow from setting up the camera with external recorders to applying LUTs and offloading the files. This session will prepare attendees for shooting with this extremely versatile camera by familiarizing them with the diversity of recording options for the EOS C500 from acquisition to finish including: System Priorities, Recording Modes, Resolutions and File Output Options.

DCS Event: Whats New in Desktop Editing
This event is still in the final planning stages, but we wanted to let you know to expect it. On the evening of Wednesday, December 4th, we will return to Key Code Medias Burbank headquarters for an event to catch us up on whats new with NLEs; both the areas of traditional off-line creative editing and for finishing on the desktop, including dealing with 4K. Well see whats new from Avid, Adobe, Apple, and perhaps even some that do not start with the letter “A.” If this subject is of interest, please mark your calendars, keep an eye out for further announcements, and well start taking RSVPs after all the details are confirmed.
DCS Mourns the Loss of Technology Pioneer Ray Dolby
Ray Dolby, an American inventor and recording Technologist has died at his home in San Francisco at the age of 80. Dr. Dolby had been living with Alzheimer’s Disease in recent years, and was diagnosed in July of this year with acute leukemia.
Dolby founded Dolby Laboratories, (a longtime supporter of DCS), in 1965. His work in noise reduction and surround sound led to the development of many state-of-the art technologies in movies, audio equipment and recording studios, for which he received more than 50 U.S. patents. In the 48 years since Dr. Dolby founded Dolby Laboratories, the company has transformed the entertainment experience from the cinema to the living room to mobile entertainment. Tens of thousands of films and billions of products and devices with Dolby technologies have made their way to theaters, homes and consumers hands around the world. The industry has awarded Dolby Laboratories with 10 Academy Awards and 13 Emmy Awards for its groundbreaking achievements throughout the years.
The company continues to be a top innovator in the areas of Sound, Digital Cinema, Reference Monitors, and Auto-Stereoscopic 3D Displays.
4K/UHD Demonstration at SMPTE 2013
SMPTE and Insight Media have teamed up to create an event focused on the 4K/UHD (Ultra High Definition) professional and consumer ecosystem. It is composed of three elements: Technical track (Oct. 21), Business track (Oct. 21), and a 4K/UHD Demonstration Area (Oct 21-23.) This event will be held at the Loews Hollywood Hotel and conference center complex in conjunction with the SMPTE 2013, Hollywood, California. For more details click here.
