Prices for 3D printers continue to fall, with XYZSystems offering its da Vinci 1.0 model for $499. “It is possible today to get low-end, relatively basic printers for several hundred dollars, where in the past they started in the thousands-of-dollars range,” says Tim Shepherd of Canalys Research, which forecasts the 3D printer market to increase to $3.8 billion in 2014 and $16.2 billion by 2018. Stock prices for 3D printer companies including ExOne, 3D Systems and Stratasys are down this year.
