First Russian Film to be Screened in 3D: Stalingrad

The brave Russian soldiers’ heroic battle during the  World War II is depicted in Russian’s first 3D  movie, Stalingrad. Directed by Fyodor Bondarchuk, the film which cost $30 million to make will also be released at IMAX theaters in the US, making it the first foreign film to witness an IMAX launch in the US.

The film has garnered 68 percent positive reviews in the Russian press where it has raked up a lot of curiosity among movie goers and the general public alike. However, there are also some who criticize the film for having depicted a commercialized version of an epic event that is also akin to a video game. All these notwithstanding, the film Stalingrad has already been nominated in the ‘Best Foreign Film’ category from Russia at the Academy Awards.
