INTERNATIONAL 3D SOCIETY TO PRESENT 3D SEMINAR AT THE CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW

International 3D Society will present a special 3D presentation at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas!

More than 30 companies will participate in the presentation – each providing a piece of the larger 3D picture as well as several 3D clips. “From 3D movies, to 3DTV networks, to the new 4K and glasses-free 3D technologies, 2013 will be a year of expansion and growth,” said Jim Chabin, President of the Society. “With more than 50 major motion pictures coming from Hollywood in 3D next year, and more than 40 3DTV networks now programming content worldwide, we will preview the year ahead during our opening day event at CES,” he added.

Speakers scheduled to discuss the motion picture industry’s impact on consumer electronics (such as smart phones, wireless devices, popup kitchen outlets or other products) include: Jim Mainard, Head of Digital Strategy and New Business, Dreamworks Animation (DWA); Rick Heineman, SVP Marketing Communications, RealD; William Sherak, President, Stereo D; Maria Costeira, CEO, XPAND; Steve Schklair, CEO, 3ality Technica; and Tom Morrod, Director, Consumer & Media Technology, IHS Electronics & Media.

Participating in discussions about 3DTV will be: Tom Cosgrove, CEO, 3net; John Cassy, Director Sky 3D, bSkyb London; Bryan Burns, VP, Strategic Business Planning and Development, ESPN; and David Brenner, CEO, Principal Media.

The seminar will include clips from upcoming 3D movies, and the hottest new 3D technologies coming to consumers in 2013 and beyond. A special presentation will highlight the first 3D broadcasts ever aired of the Olympic Games, which were held this past summer in London. Panasonic Corporation of America CTO Eisuke Tsuyuzaki will share insights and perspectives on the challenges presented in staging the world’s greatest television spectacle.

As 3D content moves from the big screen to the tablet, the seminar will feature a discussion on where consumers are likely to see 3D in the future. Presenters include: Matt Liszt, Vice President, Marketing, Masterimage 3D; Lisa Truitt, President, National Geographic Cinema Ventures; Kathleen Schroeter, Executive Manager, 3D Innovation Center, Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute of Berlin; and Bernard Mendiburu, VP Professional Marketing, Volfoni, 3D Consortium France.

Providing insights on the growth of hi-definition 3D to 4K 3D to glasses-free autostereoscopic 3D technologies will be: Dan Schinasi, Senior Marketing Manager, Samsung Electronics America; Ken Lowe, Co-Founder and Vice President of Engineering, VIZIO; Roland Vlaicu, Senior Director, Broadcast Imaging, Dolby; and Pete Lude, Senior VP, Solutions Engineering, Sony Electronics.

New products to advance eye health using active shutter 3D technology will be discussed by: Dr. Michael Duenas, Chief Public Health Officer, American Optometric Association; Jim Sheedy, Director, Vision Performance Institute, Pacific University Oregon; and Ami Dror, Co-Founder and CSO, XPAND.

The discussions will be moderated by journalists active in covering 3D technology. Moderators include: David Cohen, Daily Variety; Carolyn Giardina, The Hollywood Reporter; Adrian Pennington, The Hollywood Reporter – UK, Financial Times London; Chris Chinnock, Insight Media; and Scott Hettrick, Hollywood in Hi-Def.

Preview clips will be projected using RealD 3D technology.
