Lion King 3D excites us for upcoming Disney 3D remakes

With the surprising take off of The Lion King in 3D, it comes as no surprise that Disney has another film re-release in 3D coming out now.

Disney is set to re-release 3D versions of animated pics including “Beauty and the Beast,” “Finding Nemo,” “Monsters, Inc.” and “The Little Mermaid.”

“Great stories and great characters are timeless, and at Disney we’re fortunate to have a treasure trove of both,” Walt Disney Studios prexy Alan Bergman said in a statement.

Studio has dated the pics to bow over the next two years, but the next film is a personal family favorite.

“Beauty and the Beast” was announced for theatre release on January 13th of 2012.  Disney studios originally planned to release “Beauty” in 3D before “The Lion King,” but decided instead to release “Beauty” for a two-week trial run at Hollywood’s El Capitan theater that just ended on September 15th.

“The 3D ticket price … made it profitable to offer films in 3D for all but a few titles since 2007, which on average earned $17 million in excess of the cost of conversion,” the report stated.

These pics continue to expand their fanbase long after their theatrical release with new generations discovering the cartoons, thanks to merchandising and ancilliaries.

This is sure to please classic Disney cartoon fans around the globe, bringing families together even more with 3D now.
