Imagineer Systems, Academy Award winning developer behind mocha, recently released a new version of its software, Mocha Pro 4! New great features with an eye on roto, motion-tracking, and object-removal in stereoscopic 3D workflows that will satisfy every editor’s taste buds!

“With version 4, we are streamlining many of the complex corrective tasks that come with large stereo-3D projects and expanding the compatibility of Mocha Pro with visual-effects applications such as [The Foundry’s] Nuke [and] Ocula and Adobe After Effects,” said Imagineer CMO Ross Shain in a prepared statement. Shain explained that Mocha’s planar-tracking technology has been extended to track the difference between two image streams in a stereo-3D workflow. “This results in a lot less manual keyframing for both solving tracks and creating articulate roto masks.”

Beyond the amazing capabilities mocha Pro has proven through use in films and television, mocha Pro 4 shoots for the next level with new features such as a revamped interface, Python scripting support, customizable keyboard shortcut interface, and a stereoscopic 3D workflow.

New features in Mocha 4.0

  • Streamlined Interface
  • Retina Support
  • Icon and Button Changes
  • Workflow changes – Project settings are now independent of clip settings. You still define your initial project settings by the first clip you import, but now you can modify the project settings instead of the clips. Clips can now have multiple streams of footage. Imagineer Systems updated the clip workflow to accommodate handling multiple streams of footage. This is to help with stereo workflow. Also, Imagineer Systems overhauled the frame offset mechanism to make it easier to adjust frame offsets for your project.
  • Stereo Workflow – A major change to mocha’s workflow is being able to choose between working on mono or stereo projects. You can now import stereo views and track, render and export back to stereo.

New Export Formats

  • Tracking Data Export Changes
  • New Nuke 7 Tracker: In the past Mocha only exported either the Corner Pin or the ascii tracking file formats. You can now export directly to the Tracker node instead.
  • Adobe After Effects Transform Data: This version now no longer exports the anchor point data to reduce confusion about how to use the export. If you need to stabilize instead of matching motion, you can use the “invert” checkbox in the export dialog.

The impressive list of new features in this upgrade and the speed and accuracy at which Mocha can improve tracking and rotoscoping makes it a must-have addition to your editing toolkit.
