New Color Correction Tools for Mac Users

Modern digital filmmaking has adopted new methods of recording and therefore new methods of post adjustment are required. Many cameras now shoot with a more neutral color space. This is especially popular in DSLR video shooting. In order to avaoid losing detail in shooting highs or lows, the videographer shoots what could be called a “neutral” image. Neither the highs or the lows in the image are too extreme.

This is where Nattress Levels and Curves comes in. this amazingly easy plugin works in FCP7, FCPX, Motion and After Effects. This set of tools not only visually helps you adjust for crunchy blacks and popping whites but lets you also adjust your colors to pristine accuracy. The Nattress Curves set consists of four plugins, ‘Curves’, ‘Curves Luma’, ‘Curves RGB’ and ‘Levels’.

The Luma Plug In gives unparalleled control of your, Black, Toe, Mid, Knee and Whites.

While the Curves RGB allows to individually control the Red, Blue and Green in the scene using the same easy to understand “curves”

In working with the set of plugins, I found several advantages over other systems. First, the on-screen overlay makes the adjustments easy to see and fine tune. Second, working in the film-log space creates the for image results that easily stay within the BT709 space for HD images.

Since all images need sweetening in post this tool is an invaluable aid for those using FCP, Motion or After Effects. I highly recommend it to editors everywhere.
