New Hybrid and OTT Set-Top Boxes, IP Cameras, Entertainment Systems Enhance Connected Home Experience
LOS ANGELES — April 29, 2014 / (http://www.myprgenie.com/) — A new family of smart set-top boxes (STBs) from LG Electronics is designed to help cable operators deliver compelling home entertainment, home automation and home monitoring services to their subscribers.
At the Cable Show 2014 here this week, LG is showcasing its new line of STBs that marry proven Internet-connected device platforms with flexible cable-centric applications to meet consumers’ varying entertainment needs and enhance their home TV experience. These products are designed to lower the barrier to connected home experiences for consumers, making the latest in home entertainment and automation more widely available.
From its new Ultra HDTV cable box to OTT (over the top), Cable and Hybrid STBs based on the Android operating system, LG is offering cable operators a broad array of solutions that leverage the cable industry’s unparalleled broadband capabilities. LG was selected by the National Cable & Telecommunications Association as the Official Smart TV Partner for The Cable Show 2014.
In addition to the new smart set-top boxes, LG is demonstrating connected home solutions including a STB with home control and automation functionality, multi-function home entertainment systems and innovative IP camera designs.
“We’re seeing increasing consumer interest in IP-based home entertainment and connected home services,” said Byunghoon Min, senior vice president, LG Electronics Home Entertainment. “With LG’s portfolio of set-top boxes and connected home products, cable operators have a comprehensive response that will satisfy subscribers’ entertainment and home automation needs now and in the future.”
Consumer- and Service Provider-friendly Leaps for Industry
Among its new suite of STBs, LG’s Android based Cable/IP/Hybrid STBs feature rich user interfaces, PVR and unified search capabilities, a multitude of video applications, and seamless sharing of content with mobile devices in the home.
LG’s Ultra HD set-top box represents the next step in image quality, supporting 4K decoding in an all-in-one gateway server. The LG Ultra HD STB supports content with four times the resolution of Full HD for the ultimate in picture resolution. It also supports content sharing via DLNA, Wi-Fi and multimedia over coaxial (MoCA). LG is the Official Ultra HDTV for the Cable Show 2014.
A new LG All-in-One Entertainment System plays back music streamed wirelessly and acts like a speaker phone in addition to being an elegant speaker and docking station. When used together with the LG G Pad 8.3 tablet, this system turns the tablet into a home monitoring console, second TV, home library, digital photo frame, and radio.
LG’s mini Android OTT set-back boxes pack a lot of power in a compact design. With advanced wireless options, protected HD video with support for leading digital rights management systems, and optional HDMI pass-through functionality, these devices enable operators to launch OTT services quickly and at low cost. The simple physical setup, TR-069 support, and user interface make it possible for subscribers to self-install and quickly start browsing video content or the web with full HTML5 support.
A new series of LG IP cameras for home monitoring include HD-capable, motion-detection capable, multi-stream, ultra-compact “lipstick” style HD IP camera and auto pan-tilt “snowman” HD camera. Both cameras handle multiple streams and support motion detection.
