SANTA FE, New Mexico, August 12, 2014 – Outside GO was founded on its deep love of the wilderness and a passion for sharing it with others. For over twenty-five years, the adventure-travel company has believed in empowering local people and supporting and partnering with extraordinary community-owned lodges and wildlife conservation projects. And when it comes to one of Outside GO’s favorite species, they don’t hold back. In support of elephants this August 12 for World Elephant Day, Outside GO highlights their featured trip to the Daphne Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in East Africa, where guests get to meet and greet these marvelous creatures.

The one-on-one visit is part of a customizable Outside GO trip itinerary to East Africa. Guests embark on a ten-day journey through historic 19th century bush homes and Africa’s wildest places, meeting local Masai and Samburu people along the way, adventuring by day and relaxing in plush digs by night. But beyond these quintessential safari experiences, the highlight of the trip is bottle-feeding orphaned elephants at the Daphne Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. At the orphanage, guests get to adopt a baby elephant and get up close and personal with the animals and their keepers. The trust has successfully rescued over 150 infant elephants to date, raising them by hand to be integrated back into wild herds. Despite efforts like this, elephants could be extinct in as little as twelve years according to the S.A.F.E. Campaign. Each adoption that takes place at the Daphne Sheldrick Wildlife Trust helps make a palpable impact in the ongoing fight to save the elephants.

Outside GO president Sandy Cunningham explains, “We’re proud to play a vital and dynamic role in sustainable nature-based tourism. The people we work with around the world embody the kind of partnerships whose commitment to conservation will inspire you. We’re motivating change, one orphaned baby elephant at a time!”
