‘OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL’ DIRECTOR SAM RAIMI RECEIVES ANNUAL ‘REALD INNOVATION IN 3D AWARD’ AT CINEMACON

CINEMACON, LAS VEGAS (April 17, 2013) – Today during the Filmmakers’ Roundtable and Luncheon at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Nevada, RealD Inc. (NYSE: RLD) awarded its annual ‘RealD Innovation in 3D Award’ to director Sam Raimi for his work on OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL. The ‘RealD Innovation in 3D Award’ recognizes extraordinary contributions to digital 3D that embody the pioneering and creative spirit the technology brings to life in cinema and other applications. The award was presented to Raimi by RealD CEO and co-founder, Michael V. Lewis.

 

“OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL has set the bar in 2013 for both box office success and use of 3D to captivate audiences in a new and exciting way,” said Lewis at today’s luncheon.  “3D played an instrumental role in bringing the Land of Oz to life, allowing moviegoers to feel as if they’ve stepped inside the land for a firsthand, immersive entertainment experience.  We congratulate Sam on his achievements in 3D with this film.”

Disney’s OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL is 2013’s highest grossing film having delivered more than $470 million worldwide in ticket sales to-date.

 

 

Past ‘RealD Innovation in 3D Award’ honorees include Martin Scorsese for the five-time Academy Award-winning film HUGO, James Cameron and Jon Landau for their work on the top-grossing worldwide feature film of all-time, AVATAR, as well as Henry Selick, LAIKA and Focus Features for their work on the feature film CORALINE, the first stop-motion animated feature ever produced from inception in 3D.
