Panasonic used IBC to show off its 4K products which consist of a new UHD TV, a 31.5” 4K professional monitor, a 20” tablet and a new 4K camcorder.
The UHD TV was debuted at IFA the week before, but no additional information was available at IBC.
New is the 31.5” 4K professional monitor. It has 4xHD-SDI connectors for full 4K input or quad FHD display from four different images or a single image. That should be available in the December time frame for around 25,000 Euro.
Also on display was a 20” 4K pad that is very thin. It will be available in November for around 4,000 Euro.
Panasonic’s new Varicam 4K camcorder was shown as an early mock up. It will be more like December 2014 before it is available.
Panasonic’s AVC Ultra codec will now encode 4K content, but it is not based on HEVC. Rather, it is an H.264 variant that is branded AVC Ultra. It can record at up to 200 Mbps but there is not 4K recording benchmarks. It will offer 4:4:4 recording with support up 120 fps – something we have not heard other talk about except NHK.
