Pro Corner: NVidia Leads the 4K GPU Charge at IBC

4K is Just the Beginning

There is a lot of buzz in the industry about 4K and ultra high-definition television or UHD. In a nutshell, the industry is in the process of moving from HDTV to higher resolutions, as it moved from standard definition to HD in the recent past.

While consumers generally can’t view 4K content on their televisions or mobile devices today, cinema cameras from companies like Red Digital Cinema, Sony, Canon, ARRI and others are capable of not only 4K but higher resolutions as well, and many movies are produced having been shot at these higher resolutions.

So for our customers and partners in the industry who produce, archive or distribute content, 4K is either already here for them or on the cusp. Hence the interest and excitement as we take a fresh look at our workflows and determine which tools will best meet our needs.

That’s one reason IBC is such an important gathering of the media and entertainment industries this year, and below you’ll find links to a wealth of information about new offerings and advances from our many partners.

And it doesn’t stop there. Our friends at Quantel for instance have been showing 8K workflows using their NVIDIA Tesla-equipped Pablo Rio system.

So things are changing very rapidly and we’re proud to be the engine powering all these great solutions.

At IBC 2013, NVIDIA is demonstrating both workstation and on-premises cloud-based GPU accelerated solutions, including NVIDIA® Quadro® K6000, Quadro K5100M for mobile workstations, and NVIDIA GRID™ and GRID VCA virtualization technologies. These systems are running Adobe® Creative Cloud, Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya, Chaos V-Ray and Vizrt Viz Artist. Come visit NVIDIA booth 7.J39 at IBC for a chance to win a free NVIDIA SHIELD™ gaming and entertainment handheld device.

We’re excited to see an unprecedented number of partners showing applications running on NVIDIA visual computing technologies at this year’s show.
