Sony China announced that it will team up with Xiaomi Box and Wasu Media on August 7 to launch an ultra high definition 4K television in China, reports Shanghai’s China Business News.

Sony has launched a series of reforms to make up for its losses last year, selling off Vaio and launching Sony Visual Product independently in July. Nobuki Kurita, president of Sony China, said that Sony aims to complete its e-commerce reform before 2015. In the first half of 2014 Sony TV saw profits of US$682 million.

China, Japan, the US are key markets for Sony. It is estimated that 8-10 million 4K TV sets will be sold in China. According to Kurita, the goal is to quadruple the 2013 sales of Sony TV in China. Currently the company controls 20% of the 4K TV market in China.

Sony TV previously put emphasis on the quality of image and sound, but now it is also working on improving content, a goal that can be achieved through cooperation with Xiaomi Box. Through connecting Sony TV and Xiaomi Box, Xiaomi users can play and download 4K Sony products of Sony, and Xiaomi can also operate as the user interface (UI) of Sony TV with a shared remote control.
