Not only 3D gives us a better viewing experience, it is also doing a great job when it comes to the field of science & medicine.
It was recently announced by the scientists from Nottingham that they’ve drafted in some expert help with I-BiT, a research project seeking to treat lazy eye with video games and specially designed 3D glasses. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is to adapt some popular PlayStation 3 titles as part of the ongoing project.
Shutter glasses is the key here. The good eye is shown static content, such as the background, whereas the eye in need of treatment is shown the dynamic stuff going on in the foreground. The player perceives a single unified image.
“We are looking forward to continuing our work with the I-BiT Team and helping them make a product which will help to improve the eyesight of hundreds of thousands of young children in Europe.”
