We have known that “Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D” has been in production, as a 3D reincarnation of the series was going to happen eventually. Yesterday, producer of the film, Carl Mazzocone, has announced officially that the gas-powered, chainsaw horror will terrify you in theaters October 5th, 2012.
At first I thought that this would be a big disappointment. After all, we saw the other “Massacre” sequels and remakes. None of them had that particular pizzazz that the 1973 original had. Some people would argue that is because the original is always better, the concept was newer then, audiences were easier to scare then, blah blah blah. And they might have a point. Just look back at “Night of the Living Dead”. Being an avid Max Brooks-ian Zombie fan I must love that movie for being the beginning of a whole new monster-genre movement. But when I watch it I am bored. Even my parents, who said that first seeing it gave them nightmares for months, now watch it with detachment and mild appreciation. So here we have a problem: The “Massacre” sequels are bad. The original is dated. Where is the in-between?
This every dilemma has been addressed by Mazzocone. “Massacre 3D” will be a direct sequel to the original movie by Tobe Hooper. It will ignore every other reincarnation of this story and start fresh… without the annoying-ness of starting from square one. The key to this films success will be the added component of 3D.
“I’m excited to re-conceive this iconic horror classic in a contemporary setting for a new generation of horror fans to enjoy,” Mazzocone said. “Both John Luessenhop and I intend to deliver a new chapter derived from Tobe Hooper’s 1973 masterpiece with the goal of making it as horrifying as the original, in 3D.”
October 2012 is looking to be exciting. Not only will “Massacre 3D” come out but “Halloween 3D” will be coming out just 3 weeks later.
