Sony is going to release the world’s lightest, thinnest 13.3 inch Digital Paper device “DPT-S1” on December 3 for about 98,000 yen.
The size is W233 x L310 x H6.8mm and weighs 359g, which is the lightest and thinnest among mobile digital paper devices over 9 inches.
It’s developed to be aimed at encouraging people to use it in offices or schools instead of copying and handling lots of paper materials.
It features E Ink’s 13.3 inch (1200 x 1600 dots) flexible digital paper display “E Ink Mobius” for the display. It displays images and letters clearly in 16 levels of gray scale and, without a backlight, it is an eye-friendly screen.
On the screen, unlike regular digital paper devices, there are no extra “touch panel” and glass layers so that it feels like you are writing more directly on the device – as if you were writing on real paper. It’s compatible with optical touch and electromagnetic induction-based stylus pen input.
