How To Increase Profit For Video Creators Part One

Did you know you could have thousands of dollars just lying around?

Do you know what your most expensive asset is?

Your Camera?

Lenses?

Computer?

If you guessed any of those, you are missing the most important and most expensive asset that you have…your video content files.

You might say, no problem, I’ve got them on a hard drive.

I’ve got some news for you…

Hard drives are TEMPORARY storage!

Yes, you heard it right, temporary. They last on average from 3-5 years.

That means if you are like most, you have one precious copy of video content that has the potential to make you money every day and the danger of being lost forever. Some of them are irreplaceable.

So what to do about hard drives?

Here is my solution. Early on, hard drive prices were high, and storage sizes were small.

That has changed dramatically. Now there are many good deals to be had.

What is the best setup for your hard drive?

That will depend upon your setup, but this is what I do.

I use a two-drive RAID 0 for speed on my desktop as my working drive.

Then I have hard drive sets of two each, one as a main and one as a backup.

Remember, hard drives are temporary storage. This way if one fails, it is highly unlikely that the other will fail at the same time. Redundancy is your friend.

I like to use raw hard drives (like these).

My favorite that I have found lasts best is the Western Digital Blue Hard Drive, at least 4TB.

No cases, no extra power supplies (that can fail). And they cost less.

Although I have lately been using these Western Digital 5TB My Passport Ultra Blue Portable External Hard Drive HDD, USB-C and USB 3.1 Compatible

The price is a good value, and they have been very sturdy.

I use two methods for reading my hard drives.

The first is a Trayless Hot Swap Mobile Rack. The one that I like is this one. BTW, This is my Amazon affiliate link, so please use it to help me out.

The tray allows me to put my drives in and even hot-swap them out when I need to change them.

I also utilize an external docking station like this one, WEme USB C 3.0, to SATA External Hard Drive Dock Docking Station. It doubles as a hard drive docking station and as a duplicator for making those backup drive copies.

I started out using the mobile drives in the field with my Dell G7 7790 laptop, which is still available on Amazon.

But now, I find the smaller footprint and reliability has gotten me to implement them in normal in-studio workflow.

I did beef up the original operating system by increasing Ram to 64GB and switching out the operating M2 SSD to a 1 TB Samsung 980 pro m.2 gen4 nvme SSD

but the original configuration served me very well for quite some time.

360 video is a video that is recorded in all directions at the same time with multiple cameras. The videos are stitched together either internally in the camera or externally using special software.
