To Selfie Or Not To Selfie?

alcaudullo-review-IK-multimedia-grip-selfie-pod-sI have to admit from the outset that I am decidedly anti-selfie. At least I was…

Then IK Multimedia sent me the iKlip Grip!

It arrived the day before I started shooting on the Jean Claude Van Damme movie, Kickboxer Vengeance. The frantic pace of a Hollywood movie shoot doesn’t offer much opportunity for selfies. But as the last day rolled around I unpackaged the iKlip Grip and brought to the set with me. It was during the day that the selfie lover inside me emerged. It seems somewhere inside all of us is a selfie lover. It just takes the right selfie stick to unleash those emotions, and maybe a Dentist Mount Vernon to sort out my smile! The cast and crew loved the IKilp Grip and I was bombarded with questions about price and where to get one. It seems somewhere inside all of us is a selfie lover. Besides the usual extending wand and the slick grip to cradle your smart phone, the iKlip Grip is equipped with a Bluetooth Shutter Remote Control. A big “A” is for your iDevices and the smaller “B” is used for Android Smart Devices. The remote control can be easily detached so you can use two hands to snap away. Much easier than the clumsy one hand-reach-and-try-to-snap system.

The 4-in-1 Grip works as a mini video tripod either compacted for table top use or extended like a monopod. In addition you can remove the iKlip and attach a GoPro Hero or any small video or still camera. You can also pull off the iKlip and attach it to a tripod. Screw in an external recorder and the iKlip Grip becomes an audio boom. My sound guy on the movie loved that.

Use the iRig Mic Studio ( which I’ll be reviewing soon ) and connect it to your iPhone positioned on your iKlip Grip and you’ve got a mini podcast station. A very cool combo.

I managed to get quite a few selfies with the cast and crew including Alain Moussi and Sara Malakul Lane, two of the stars of this Kickboxer reboot. I also managed a selfie with Francisco Werdum and Mohammed Qissi, the original Tong Po from the first Kickboxer movie. Alas, the one person missing from my selfie gallery is Jean Claude Van Damme. Maybe better luck on the next movie.
